A psychedelic experience can show you paths you didn't know existed. Integration is how you learn to walk them.

Psychedelic Integration

Coming back from a psychedelic experience is its own kind of journey. The weeks that follow can feel strange — the ordinary world unchanged, and yet something in you irrevocably different. There’s an un-anchored feeling, not exactly lost - but not yet arrived. You may feel the promise of what could be but the ‘real’ world is pulling at attention and the luminous insights you felt with such certainty may become slippery and begin to fade.

In the afterglow and beyond, what opened during the journey needs somewhere to land - in the body, in the nervous system, in the daily fabric of your life. The window that opens during a psychedelic experience is real. It is precious. And it is finite.

Integration is the process of bringing your experience in to land. Not analysing what happened until it makes sense, but learning to live it - in the body, in your relationships, in the choices you make and in the patterns you play out.

How that happens, and how much of that opening you're actually able to receive, depends enormously on what you do next and on the support around you.

The landscape a psychedelic experience reveals is real. But seeing new paths is not the same as walking them. Research into psychedelic-assisted therapy consistently shows that the experience itself is only part of what creates lasting change. What happens in the weeks and months that follow determines how much of that opening becomes real transformation — and how much quietly fades.

Psychedelics work by temporarily relaxing the brain's deeply held predictive patterns, creating a window of genuine neuroplasticity in which what has long felt fixed becomes, briefly, available to change. This window must be met with intention and with a nervous system that is supported and regulated. Without a process for working with what surfaces, even the most profound experience can remain just that, an experience. Vivid, meaningful, but unintegrated. The patterns reasserting themselves. The insights fading like a dream on waking.

Why Integration Matters

Integration unfolds in phases — and each one asks something different of you. There is no single ‘correct’ path through this process. As with preparation, the key is different for every lock — and the work is shaped by who you are, what you experienced, and what your life is asking of you in the aftermath.

What Integration Actually Involves

Phase 1 — Stabilisation (days 1–14)

Before anything else, the body needs to recover. A psychedelic ceremony is a significant physical undertaking — often involving sleep deprivation, travel, dietary restriction, and intense emotional and spiritual experience. The priority in these first days is nourishment, rest, and gentle grounding.

Within the first 72 hours — while memories are still vivid and the experience is most alive — we focus on raw capture. Recording what happened through writing, drawing, movement, or whatever feels natural. Not to extract meaning, but simply to externalise and honour what arose. Most practitioners recommend an integration session within this window, and it is one I make available to clients for exactly this reason.

Through the first week we focus on stabilisation — supporting the nervous system back toward homeostasis, gently and without pushing. By the second week, the rawness begins to settle and early pattern recognition starts to emerge. What keeps coming back? What feels significant? We begin to notice without yet concluding.

Please note: if in the days following your experience you are feeling severely destabilised, are experiencing a mental health crisis, or have thoughts of suicide or self-harm, please reach out to a licensed mental health professional or crisis service immediately. I am always available to support you in finding the right help.

Phase 2 — Meaning-making & active integration (weeks 2–12)

As the body settles and the nervous system regulates, we begin to draw out meaning. What is true? What feels like your truth — as distinct from the intensity of the experience itself? This is also the period of greatest neuroplastic opportunity — the window in which new patterns are most available to form.

We work with small, intentional changes that begin to build new habits and ways of moving through the world — taking advantage of the neuroplastic window while it remains open. What we do not do is make large life decisions or sweeping changes. The window is open — but wisdom moves carefully within it.

Phase 3 — Structural integration (months 3 and beyond)

As meaning consolidates, deeper questions begin to emerge. This is the point at which bigger decisions and life changes can be approached with greater clarity and groundedness. This phase is less about processing and more about discernment and embodied decision-making.

This is where the somatic dimension of the work becomes particularly valuable. Rather than thinking our way through major life decisions, we continue to nurture our relationship with the Self — listening ever more deeply to the body and its wisdom. Working somatically, we explore the parts of you that seek change — and the parts that resist it. Both carry important information. Together we use that wisdom to discern next steps, to sense which paths feel true rather than just logical, and to move forward with the kind of embodied clarity that the mind alone rarely reaches.

The nervous system, the felt sense, the wisdom held in the body — these become our compass alongside the mind.

Phase 4 — Ongoing integration (the rest of your life)

Integration doesn't end. Many people continue to integrate a single profound experience for years — even a lifetime. What felt true in the weeks after an experience may shift and deepen as you continue to change and unfold. Meaning-making is not a destination but a living, evolving process — as fluid and ever-changing as you are.

For those who want ongoing support beyond formal sessions, The Numi Room is being developed as a community space for exactly this — a place for periodic check-ins, continued learning, and connection with others navigating the same long arc of integration. 1:1 support also remains available whenever life resurfaces what needs attention.

On Challenging Experiences

Not every psychedelic journey is luminous. Some surface material that is difficult, confronting, or destabilising — old trauma, deep fear, experiences that are hard to make sense of or that leave you feeling more unsettled than before. This is more common than is often acknowledged, and it is nothing to be ashamed of.

If your experience was challenging — if you are carrying something heavy, or struggling to find solid ground in the aftermath — this work is particularly for you. Integration support in these circumstances is less about meaning-making and more about safety, regulation, and the slow, careful process of finding your footing again. You don't need to have had a beautiful experience to deserve support.

Beyond Talk — How We Work

Integration sessions draw on the same somatic, body-based approach that underpins all of the work at Numinosity. Rather than simply talking through what happened, we use EP-informed coaching to help you find genuine meaning from your experience — exploring what arose with curiosity and compassion, working with the parts of you that are ready to change, and taking concrete, embodied steps toward any goals or intentions that have emerged. The insights don't stay in the session. They begin to move into your life.

Is This For You?

Integration support is for anyone who has had a psychedelic experience and wants to ensure that what it opened doesn't simply fade — but finds its way into real, lasting change.

You might be in the right place if:

  • You've recently had a psychedelic experience and want support making sense of what arose

  • You had a profound experience some time ago but feel its potential hasn't fully landed in your daily life

  • Your experience was challenging or destabilising and you need support finding solid ground

  • You're carrying insights you can feel but haven't yet been able to embody or act on

  • You want to work with what the experience opened at a somatic level — not just intellectually

Not yet had your experience? Preparation support is where to begin.

A note on scope I am a somatic coach and wellness practitioner, not a licensed therapist or medical professional. Integration support is not a clinical treatment. If you are currently in crisis, experiencing severe destabilisation, or having thoughts of self-harm, please reach out to your GP or a licensed mental health professional in the first instance. I am always happy to have a conversation about whether this work is right for you before we begin.

Psilocybin & Ayahuasca

The medicine you worked with shapes the integration process — not just what arose during the experience, but how it continues to unfold in the aftermath.

Psilocybin

Psilocybin experiences often surface emotional material with striking clarity — insights, memories, or realisations that can feel both liberating and tender in equal measure. The afterglow period can be a particularly rich time for integration, but it is also a time when the nervous system needs gentleness. Returning to ordinary life too quickly — to screens, noise, and the demands of daily routine — can interrupt what is still settling. In the days and weeks that follow, we work with what arose at a pace that honours the depth of what the medicine opened.

Ayahuasca

Ayahuasca tends to work with particular intensity, often across multiple ceremonies in a short period, which means integration begins even before the final ceremony ends. The post-dieta period is part of the integration process itself, and how it is held matters. Ayahuasca has a way of surfacing material in layers, what feels resolved in ceremony may continue to unfold for weeks or months afterward. Integration support after Ayahuasca is less about making immediate meaning and more about creating the conditions for that unfolding to happen safely and with support.

Whichever medicine you worked with, integration support here is tailored to where you are — not a generic process, but one shaped by your experience, your nervous system, and what your life is asking of you now.
